Tablet should prevent CoV transmission

The COVID-19 vaccination is intended to ease the situation around the COVID-19 pandemic. However, it is still unclear whether it will prevent transmission of the disease. This is exactly what scientists from the University of Graz are attempting: They are developing a tablet that should prevent COVID-19 transmission. Kurt Zatloukal (BBMRI.at Director) and his team from the Med Uni Graz are involved in this project.

Lozenge shortly before clinical trial

The effectiveness of the tablet is first tested in the laboratory. Target and starting point for the development is one of the two receptors the virus needs to attach to the cell. “The next step is to test the tablet that is intended for oral application as a lozenge on humans” says Andreas Kungl. The tablet is intended as a supplement but not as a substitute for a COVID-19 vaccination.
