BBMRI.at joins CaBRIOH to strengthen One Health training
The EU-funded CaBRIOH project has kicked off at Med Uni Graz, with BBMRI.at contributing to the development of targeted training offers and the NextGen training platform for One Health research infrastructure staff. Coordinated by BBMRI-ERIC, the project brings together research infrastructures and experts to strengthen knowledge and expertise through accessible, needs-driven training across the One Health domain.
CaBRIOH project kicks off in Graz
The EU-funded CaBRIOH project has officially started with a kick-off meeting hosted by project partner Medical University of Graz (Med Uni Graz). Coordinated by BBMRI-ERIC, the three-year project brings together research infrastructures and experts to strengthen training, skills development and professional pathways for technical staff working across the One Health domain.
The kick-off meeting was opened by Jens Habermann, Director General of BBMRI-ERIC, and Andrea Wutte, Head of BBMRI-ERIC QM Service, together with the project team. Participants were guided through the project’s objectives, activities and planned outcomes, followed by presentations and discussions with consortium partners, including colleagues from BBMRI.at, BBMRI.ch/Swiss Biobanking, BBMRI.de/German Biobank Network, BBMRI.es, BBMRI.it, BBMRI-ERIC Headquarters, and EIRENE.
Building capacity and NextGen Training platform for research infrastructures
CaBRIOH – Capacity Building in Research Infrastructures Towards One Health addresses the need for coordinated and accessible training for professionals working across the One Health domain.
The project builds on existing training programmes and good practices while also developing new, targeted training offers. The aim is to strengthen the knowledge and expertise of research infrastructure staff and support the optimal functioning of research infrastructures across disciplines and countries.
A key development of CaBRIOH is the NextGen Training platform, Â building upon the BBMRI-ERIC Academy to provide a user-friendly, needs-driven learning experience for established and emerging One Health research infrastructure staff. The platform will bring together training offers and enable personalised learning pathways, helping make skills and competencies more visible, transferable and impactful through micro-credentials, Europass and EU Digital Identity Wallets.
BBMRI.at brings in human and veterinary expertise
BBMRI.at contributes to CaBRIOH through the Medical University of Graz, Vetmeduni and MedUni Wien, bringing together expertise from human and non-human research as well as quality-related aspects and biobanking education and training. This includes connecting existing training offers with CaBRIOH activities and supporting the development of new One Health-related training formats, such as the CEN/TS 17626:2021 webinar series on pre-examination processes for human specimens for microbiome DNA analysis, co-organised by Med Uni Graz and the BBMRI-ERIC Academy as part of CaBRIOH.
At Med Uni Graz, Cornelia Stumptner, Executive Manager of BBMRI.at, serves as Local Principal Investigator and leads Task 4.4, which focuses on developing a sustainability concept for the NextGen Training platform to support its long-term use and maintenance beyond the project duration.

Looking ahead
Following the successful kick-off, the CaBRIOH partners will now work together to further map existing skills and training needs, develop new learning opportunities and establish pathways that support the professional development of research infrastructure staff across Europe.
