Citizens could explore biobanking and pathology work at Med Campus Graz Open House Event

After ten years of construction, Med Uni Graz officially celebrated the Opening of its new campus. The public was invited to explore the university and participate in an interactive program organized by research units and cooperation partners, including BBMRI.at – the Austrian biobanking infrastructure.

On 12 May 2023 from 15:00 – 22:00, Med Uni Graz opened its campus to the public with interesting lectures and hands-on stations organized by the university’s different institutes and research divisions, accompanied by a musical program and an extensive culinary offer.

At the interactive station of BBMRI.at and the Institute of Pathology, children and adults could learn about biobanking and its importance for biomedical research and were informed about the processing of samples from bedside to biobank. Visitors were also given the opportunity to process samples themselves by cutting and shock-freezing animal tissue and staining paraffin tissue sections with H&E. The stained sections could then be examined under the microscope.

The event was attended by around 2000 to 3000 visitors of all ages.
