Researchers from BBMRI.at partner Med Uni Graz provide in their pre-Editorial paper, an overview of open research issues and challenges for several AI related topics in biotechnology. This shall serve for other authors as a guideline for developing their AI focused paper.
While the term artificial intelligence (AI) was coined in 1956, AI has become more and more popular today due to increased data volumes and advanced algorithms.
AI is relevant in many fields and applications including Health & Well-being, Food Security, Responsible Consumption and Production. Clean Water, Clean Energy, Climate Action, Life below Water, or counteract biodiversity loss. Also in life sciences AI with machine learning and Big Data analytics is ubiquitous today.
Researchers from BBMRI.at partner Med Uni Graz provide in their paper a definition for AI and explain the differences between AI, machine learning, and deep learning. They describe current and future applications of AI as well as typical challenges where it is important to advance future work. With a summary of trends and hot topics in AI in biotechnology, the authors have developed a document that can serve as a guideline for other authors.
