COVID-19: Nasal spray instead of FFP2 mask

July 2021

‘Replacing FFP2 masks by a nasal spray' - this is the aim a young start-up company from Upper Austria wants to achieve with the help of BBMRI.at partner Medical University of Graz.

At the high security BSL-3 facility of the Medical University of Graz research with highly infectious viruses like the Sars-CoV-2 virus is carried out.

Now the theory has been confirmed that Sars-CoV-2 viruses can be very efficiently neutralized by a special protein, which is (also) present in bananas.

This mechanism of action was discovered by experts from Steyr, a town in Upper Austria, and can be the basis for generating an anti-Sars-CoV-2 nasal. The company is now searching for partners to bring the idea from laboratory to application.
