NEW: Legal Helpdesk and Knowledge Base operated by BBMRI.at experts

BBMRI.at is excited to announce the launch of its new BBMRI.at Legal Helpdesk and Knowledge Base maintained by partner University of Vienna. This Helpdesk supports BBMRI.at partners in addressing legal and regulatory issues.

Before and during biobanking and using human and animal material and data for research a variety of legal question may arise. The Legal Helpdesk offers BBMRI.at partners to send their questions on legal and regulatory matters questions, With the Helpdesk BBMRI.at supports its partners in addressing legal and regulatory issues under national Austrian and European law in many different topics, especially in the areas of data protection, data security, intellectual property rights and biodatabase law.

Legal experts within BBMRI.at operate the Helpdesk. They answer incoming questions and make these questions and their answers available to the public in the open-access BBMRI.at Knowledge Base on the BBMRI.at website.

– Learn more about the importance of legal compliance in biobanking and research

 

– Access the legal Q&A section with questions on important legal issues related to the use of human and animal/clinical veterinary samples for research. Answers were provided by the BBMRI.at Legal Helpdesk.

 

Q&A will be published periodically on bbmri.at/news-events

 

The first two Q&A published are about

 

1) Legal provisions applicable to genetic testing (and especially to whole genome and whole exome sequencing) in Austria  This question was originally put by stakeholders to the BBMRI-ERIC ELSI Helpdesk, a service to which the University of Vienna also contributes as part of its tasks within BBMRI.at.

 

2) The existence of EU regulation that explicitly regulates biobanks and  biobanking This question was originally sent to the BBMRI.at central contact point for samples/data, collaboration and other questions.
