BBMRI.at QM Workshop 2025: Quality through collaboration

On June 4–5, 2025, BBMRI.at brought together quality management coordinators from across its national network for the third BBMRI.at QM Workshop in Vienna.

On June 4th and 5th, 2025, the Quality Management Coordinators of BBMRI.at partner institutions will convene in Vienna for the third BBMRI.at QM Workshop. This two-day event will focus entirely on biobank-related quality standards and best practices. Core topics include the implementation of the ISO 20387 accreditation standard, application of the BBMRI-ERIC Q-Labels, concepts for data quality, current experiences with proficiency testing, and the evaluation of processing methods according to ISO 21899. For the latter, exemplary validation and verification plans were developed and discussed.
The workshop is an integral part of BBMRI.at Workpackage 3, which aims to coordinate QM activities within the national network and establish an active interface to BBMRI.QM at the European level. Additionally, the QM coordinators nominated by the partner institutions are responsible for Austria’s Cross-Audit Program, in which biobanks share insights into their quality management systems and conduct reciprocal evaluations. Now entering its third cycle, this program has become a key instrument for quality assurance and harmonization among Austrian biobanks.
