The impact of crosslinking and non-crosslinking fixatives on antigen retrieval and immunohistochemistry

Molecular analyses in diagnostics and research can be strongly affected by pre-analytical factors. With respect to in situ detection methods such as immunohistochemistry different fixation and antigen retrieval methods can influence the outcome.

 

In this paper C. Stumptner et al. show the effect of fixation using the cross-linking fixative formalin and the non-crosslinking fixative PAXgene on IHC, immunofluorescence and electron microscopy. The relevance of systematic testing of different antigen retrieval conditions are highlighted.
